ETS2 1.47 Open Beta Update is here! What's new?

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) fans, rejoice! The latest 1.47 Open Beta Update has arrived, offering a plethora of exciting new features and improvements for players to explore. Available for testing now, the update includes a comprehensive Germany Rework, along with the addition of ownable Gas Cisterns and Livestock Trailers.

Other notable features include an Adaptive Cruise Control & Emergency Braking System, Random Road Bumps, Custom City Intros, and a redesigned Career History UI. Additionally, players can now access an in-game update log and utilize an Economy Reset Teleport option. Let's dive in and explore what's new with this latest ETS2 update!

What is the Open Beta state?

All the updates mentioned below are not final yet or "work-in-progress", but it's available for all players if they want to try them before it is really sealed as an official update.

Why did they release the unfinished update?

This Open Beta state is essentially to gather more feedback from the player in larger numbers. Normally they held the closed beta test with a smaller group of players and hear their feedback. It's like testing the water, they only need a bit of adjustment but wanted to hear the initial response first.

How can I play this open beta update?

To participate in the open beta, you can access the version in the public_beta branch on Steam. To do so, follow these steps: Open the Steam client, go to LIBRARY, right-click on Euro Truck Simulator 2, select Properties, then click on the Betas tab. From there, select the public_beta branch, and version 1.47 will be available. No password is required. Note that you may need to restart your Steam client to see the correct branch name.

Can I just wait for the official update?

Yes! You are certainly can. You just need to wait a little longer until the open beta test is ended and enjoy the final, official, and finished update.

Germany Rework

The developer team from ETS2 has recently reworked the cities of Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Nurnberg, and Erfurt completely from the ground up. This includes landmarks, road networks, industries and so much more.

The Germany rework project has been undertaken by a dedicated map team, who have put in a lot of effort to update one of the oldest map sections of the base game.

Ownable Gas Cisterns

Ownable Gas Cisterns are available in this update! These trailers come in various lengths, chassis, and customization options, and are specifically designed to transport highly flammable gases such as Ethane, Propane, and LPG.

Please note that while these trailers are now available, the in-game economy for them and the list of available cargoes are still a work-in-progress and are subject to change. We appreciate your patience as we continue to refine these features.

The Ownable Gas Cistern for Euro Truck Simulator 2 will be available in the most common trailer combinations found in Europe, including the Single 2-axle 10-meter chassis with a 40m3 Gas Tank and single 3-axle 12-meter chassis with a 50m3 gas tank. We hope you enjoy using these trailers in your deliveries and look forward to your feedback on this exciting new addition to the game!

Accessories included (but are not limited to):

  • Paintable/Chrome Boxes
  • Valve Boxes with additional toolboxes, side guards, etc
  • Fire extinguishers
  • A variety of rear fenders and rear bumper lights
  • A variety of hoses
  • A variety of trailer paint jobs, and more!

Ownable Livestock Trailers

Purchasable Livestock Trailers! Gas cisterns aren't the only new trailers in town, and we're excited to offer players the opportunity to transport cattle in their very own trailers.

Those who have experience with this type of trailer in American Truck Simulator may already understand the unique benefits of this addition, but for those who are new to it, Livestock Trailers offer a range of customization options for both the body and chassis.

List of everything you will be able to tweak:

  • Left/right/front/rear body
  • Markers
  • Side protection plates/boxes
  • Rear fenders
  • Rear bumpers
  • Rear mudflaps

Adaptive Cruise Control & Emergency Braking System

Finally! This feature is my favorite so far. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and the Emergency Braking System are available in the latest ETS2 1.47 Open Beta update. Initially released as a hidden experimental feature back in version 1.44, this is the highly requested feature to make it an official part of the game.

ACC automatically adjusts the speed and distance from the vehicle in front when in cruise control mode, which is especially helpful in busy highways where traffic is merging or constantly changing speeds. And with the Emergency Braking System, your brakes will activate to avoid or minimize damage if a collision is imminent with the vehicle ahead.

While these features have been in the works for some time, they are still a work in progress, and I personally look forward to seeing this as the full work feature.

Random Road Bumps

Random Road Bumps into 1.47! These bumps are procedurally generated to create a more realistic and imperfect feel to the roads. Although they may not be visible, drivers will feel these subtle bumps and in some cases, hear them affect their vehicle while driving. We are excited to continue developing this feature and welcome your thoughts and feedback on our official forums.

These bumps are generated procedurally and are designed to provide a subtle, realistic feel to the roads. While they may not be visible to the driver, they can be felt and heard as you drive, adding a new level of immersion to the game. The team at ETS2 is excited to expand on this feature in future updates

Custom City Intros - Road to the Black Sea DLC

Following the last update that brought custom city introductions to the Iberia DLC, they have now extended these cutscenes to the Road to the Black DLC of Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Whenever a player chooses a starting city to create a new profile, these unique cutscenes will play, displaying the region where the player has opted to begin. Both new players and those starting a fresh profile will relish these new inclusions!

Career History UI Redesign

This update brings a revamp to the Career History UI in American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. For those unfamiliar with this feature, it can be accessed from the main menu and showcases a progress graph along with some stats.

The redesigned UI now presents a more detailed insight into your driving journey, displaying four sections: Deliveries, Exploration, Driver Experience, and Penalties. Each section provides different statistics that offer a thorough review of your trucking career so far, such as total deliveries, past delivery ratings, on-time delivery percentage, map exploration, visited companies, truck data, and discoveries.

Moreover, a new section has been included that shows the penalties you have received in the last two weeks, excluding minor infractions like hitting traffic signs or falling asleep at the wheel that do not need to be on your permanent record.

The delivery log has also undergone a redesign, presenting your previous jobs, cargo details, delivery date, income, XP, time spent, and other relevant information in a clear and concise manner.

In-Game Update Log

Both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator now feature a new UI pop-up displaying the changelog for a major update or featured DLC release. This will appear upon game launch after an update or in the main menu during gameplay if an update was made while playing.

Additionally, you can access a history of previous changelogs and official social media links.

Economy Reset Teleport

In the past, when a player's economy was reset during game load, they were automatically teleported to their HQ garage. However, they have made a small change that gives us as players the option to choose whether they want to teleport to their chosen HQ or opt for a free quick travel to any service station of our preference.
