How to Spawn Aurora Borealis in ETS2 - The Northern Lights

Driving a truck at night is now much more satisfying because you can be accompanied by the beautiful light of the Aurora Borealis, the light from the North Pole. With the latest update (1.49) in Euro Truck Simulator 2, now players can summon or spawn the aurora borealis anywhere, without having to go to a city in northern Europe in the game.

Please note that the aurora lights in the ETS2 game can only appear at night or when the sky is dark from 9 PM to 5 AM. From the information I got, you can make the aurora appear from nine in the evening (9 PM), until five in the morning (5 AM). Outside of that timeframe, the aurora rays will not appear.

The first time I saw the Aurora Borealis, I was amazed by its beauty. Now every time I get a delivery schedule at night, I can easily bring out the beautiful light from the aurora borealis in the northern part of the sky, wherever I am in the game.

How to Spawn the Aurora Borealis in ETS2 - Northern Lights

  1. Make sure you enter the game at nine in the evening (9 PM / 21:00) or before five in the morning (5 AM / 05:00). To speed up the time, please see the tips and tutorial below.
  2. Click the Tilde (~) button located next to the "1" key, below the "Esc" key on the keyboard. If there's no problem, a special ETS2 developer command box will appear. If it doesn't appear, it means you have to activate developer mode first, the tutorial is at the bottom of the article.
  3. Type "g_spawn_aurora"

  4. then click the "Enter" button.
  5. If an error message does not appear, please click the Tilde (~) button again to remove the developer mode command box.
  6. Wait about 30 seconds for Aurora lights to form perfectly. If there's no problem, the aurora borealis lights will appear in one part of the sky. Please look around the sky to make sure.

How to enable developer mode for the ETS2 game

  • On your PC, Open Windows Explorer (Win+E)
  • Open this folder: "Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2"
  • locate and open (with notepad) a file named "config.cfg"
  • In the config file, please search for the text named uset g_developer "0". There is a zero (0), please change the zero to one, so it should be looks like this: uset g_developer "1".
  • Next, look for the text uset g_console "0". Change the number zero to one, so it should be looks like this: uset g_console "1".

  • Save changes by pressing Ctrl + S then Close the file.
  • Done. Please restart the game and try pressing the tilde (~) button again to open the developer mode command box in the game.

Speed up time in the game

The first method, take a break/rest in the game. Please enter your own garage, rest area, or truck dealer, then select rest mode (sleep). If you wake up too early or miss the nighttime, please back to rest again until you wake up between nine in the evening and five in the morning.

The second method, you can speed up the time in the game manually via the developer command box with the code "g_set_time 23" (23 = eleven o'clock at night). Make sure you have activated developer mode as I wrote above.

Hopefully, this article about how to bring out the aurora borealis in the Euro Truck Simulator 2 game is useful. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments column below as usual. Remain a wise user and have fun playing games accompanied by the beautiful northern lights!
